Today I had a very interesting dialogue. It pertains to leadership and education being a necessary part of the journey. A leader first has to have a vision of where and what area he or she needs to lead. A very important aspect that many neglect is that a true leader needs to become the difference that needs to be seen. A leader can't lead in area where they are still weak. Example: a former drug addict who has conquered that area does not need to go back to being a drug addict to help others beat the habit. That person needs to be the tangible point of change that someone can see. At that point the former drug addict has credibility with those who want to become whole. A leader has to be relative to their crowd. I know its a tragic example but its a real life situation that happens everyday. What I want to know is :1. How do we continue to groom leaders in this day and time? 2. How do we reach to the heart of the people and separate them from the habits that hold them back? 3. So much has happened over the past few days! October has really been interesting already. I just want to touch on the lost of a few icons in our lifetime. Rev. Fred L.Shuttlesworth, Steve Jobs, and Derrick Bell passed on yesterday October 5,2011.
Rev. Fred L.Shuttlesworth was one of the pioneers of the Civil Rights Movement. His home and Church were bombed. Despite that he rose to the challenge of fighting for civil rights over and over again. His efforts, as well as, many others paved the way for all people (regardless of race, creed, or color) to live in a civilized society. Steve Jobs, the genius that gave us the iPhone, iPad, and the first computer mouse, was a pioneer in the area of technology. Apple put out some of the most groundbreaking computer technology in our lifetime. Steve Jobs was always an innovator. All of his inventions have revolutionized the way we use computers, talk on the phone, and even listen to music. Derrick Bell was the first African American Professor of Law at Harvard University.Bell fought many obstacles to reach such a milestone in achievement. He played a major role in the creation of Critical Race Theory( the originator). Derrick A Bell Jr. was an icon that we didn't hear too much about, but his accomplishments have contributed to this country greatly! Educating our minds about pioneers that have paved the way in so many areas is something that we should incorporate into our everyday walk!!! |
